Poem by Mike Bayles: “Cloud-swept Skies”

Hello everyone!

Today we have a poem by Mike Bayles of Davenport, IA:

Cloud-swept Skies

Ragged clouds impose themselves
on skies overlooking the cities
nestled on the river's north bank,
lying under the edge of a weather front.

The span of an aging bridge
takes me higher
and into a spattering of rain,
while on my way home.

I wonder why rain would fall
on one city and pass another.
I wonder about hidden currents
inciting Midwest weather.

A cool breeze stirs skies
well past the peak of summer,
the hint of fortunes
for one and all along the river.
